No snark?

Maybe it's the Upper Canadian in me that expects politicians to take the lowest road possible. Rick gave both Mayor Peter Kelly and Liberal leader Stephen MacNeil ample opportunity to slam their detractors and to score some political points and they refused to take that road. Is that naive or is that the Nova Scotian way?

I think Darrell Dexter and the NDP had a great working relationship with John Hamm and that was a benefit to the province. However, I don't believe the current Premier has that same relationship. I think a little snark would elevate both DD and SM into the limelight and into the position of Premier. There, they could re-establish the concilliatory relationship with the other leaders. It's great to be nice, but when it comes at the expense of your success...

Do they want it? Do they want to be Premier? It's an accusation that's been hurled at DD before. I liked what SM was talking about today, in terms of trying to fix the problem fo ER closures and wait times, instead of focusing on this anti-strike legislation for health care. Again, kind of short on specifics, I guess we'll have to wait for the next election.

Rick and I were chatting after the show about what the 1st question for the Premier should be! There are so many to choose from! I'd like to know (maybe not off the top) if he even likes his job. I do not get that impression from him. I don't feel the passion like I do from a Danny Williams or, in the past, Ralph Klein. I don't know, is it just me?

I was laughing as Rick was baiting the Mayor to say something bad about various people: Sue Uteck, Rick Emberley etc. He wouldn't bite!! PK doesn't have to though, because he's so popular, he doesn't have to stoop so low. The councillors would be smart to stop the personal attacks on other councillors and the Mayor and focus on the task at hand. But, Rick very astutely pointed out that even Dr. Phil couldn't get this council to be civil (or even civilized).

Interesting, eh? Yesterday there was speculation about a federal election by the end of the fall and now Peter MacKay hints they'd let Bill Casey back into the party? Thank you to Bill Casey for saying, sure, honour the Atlantic Accord and we'll chat. Maybe Harper is learning to be a little more concilliatory himself, realizing Bill Casey's riding is a safe seat and he needs all the MPs he can get in order to form a majority.

Here's a question that popped into my mind yesterday: If Hamid Karzai wants to negotiate with the Taliban, why are we fighting them? I was never for an immediate withdrawl, but if Karzai is undermining the mission of NATO to destroy the Taliban, we should pull out now. It's so sad that another Canadian has lost his life.

On that note, I'll wrap it up.

Bernie Smith from the Spring Garden rd. business association will be in. Some are touting him as a possible mayoralty candidate. We'll get the scoop tomorrow.

Until then,

Amber

Amber.

Good afternoon.

As per your opening comments in your Blog to day in response all I will say is this can you Politics 101?

Further more as per the interview next Monday with the Premier where to begin.

My advice lets not focus on him. Lets focus on the issues & concerns that continue to affect the Citizens of Nova Scotia. Such as The Atlantic accord, Good Paying Full time Jobs leaving the Province. The High Cost of Gasoline, Labour Standards, The Cost of Living in Nova Scotia not to mention the High Taxes Etc. Issues of Substance per say.

The fact of the matter is there is a NUMBER of outstanding issues and concerns that he has to date failed to address lets find out why?

In Closing Lets be Proactive not reactive. Lets have an interview to remember. Unfortunalety I will be in Sydney next Monday and unable to Listen or particpate.

Thanks and keep up the Good Work.

Hellooooooooo Amberrrrrrrrrr

Well I missed most of the show today but I will be tuning in tomorrow for sure.

I am courious about the question I asked Rick yesterday.
Would he accept a position with the Province of NS in the Communication Dept?
He didn't say yes and he didn't say no.Did a little jig I believe.

I hope he doesn't. It would be very dis-appointing if Rick were to jump ship. although I also realize that sometimes that carrott they dangle in your face can sometimes be very tempting. Perhaps more money, benefits, pension, holidays, but remember Rick, Debbie and Amber and of course Brian, the quickest way to elimination the competition is to hire it. Don't fall for it.
You can bet that when the government under Rodney MacDonald goes down; and it will, all these newly hired 'communication advisers" "spin doctors" and yes even their own "spin nurse practioneer" Bill "Arsehole" Turpin will come tumbelling down.

Stay where you are Rick, no matter how tough these women are on you. and besides Rick, how many pairs of "white socks "would it take to get you to jump ship?

As far as the Premier finally coming on....its about time....
but then again I agree with some of the others who say No, don't give him the opportunity.
I will be listening with wide open ears for these words of so called wisdom from the so called leader of NS.
lets see how the premier reacts when all his call centers start closing up shop because of an "American style recession".

Its coming and all these USA call centers that came to Canada with government subsidies like from the Province of NS or the Federal Gov't of Canada will be shutting down cause it is no longer feasable to them beacuse of the strength of the Cdn dollar.

This Stora deal is interesting as deals like that just don't come together over night.

I am willing to bet that this deal was in the works when Rodney made a deal with NSP(EMERA) for NSP to not increase the power rates by 14%. The deal being lower rates for Stora, on the taxpayers back and Emera gets a great deal on burning the high ash and high sulphur coal in Lingan and Trenton without having to put in scrubbers, bought from Rodney's biggest political contributor, John Chisholm who is running the "STRIP MINE" in Pt Aconi, Boularderie Island.

Well thats my rant for today.
Well not the only rant but certainly the only public one.
